Grammar

two adjectives hyphenated

Hi,

Please take a look at the sentence and note the part underlined where there are two adjectives, silvery and white. Why is it necessary to have them hyphnated?

ZZZ is a soft silvery-white metal.

It's to show that silvery modifies white. I drive an antique red car means that my car is an antique and that it's red. "
