If you hit your finger against something and your nail bends backwards, sometimes you'll get a while line across your nail when it has bent backwards, do you know what I mean?

If so how would you phrase:
If you hit your finger against something and your nail bends backwards, sometimes you'll get a while line across your nail when it has bent backwards

No, I don't. I've never heard of a while line, and I haven't bent a nail backwards.
