Twist doorbell

I read about a twist doorbell in an American short story I've just finished. A man in the story "twisted at the grip that rang the bell" at the front door. The house is supposed to be built in the twenties. I'm not familiar with those twist type of doorbells, but is it still used there? Or just at the good old days' houses?

Doorbells like that are quite unusual now. The idea is that you twist the **** hard in order to supply power to ring the bell. Ordinary doorbells today ar

I'd forgotten all about them. I haven't seen one for a l-o-o-o-ng time. But they were around in the UK in the 50s and 60s. Maybe still are in some places.

You are so basic up there in the North. I suppose you just climb straight onto the bicycle, calm as you like? Uncouth, I call it. And they say Australian foreplay consists of the words "You awake?"
