twilight

Hi,

Most online dictionaries only mention, "twi-" = "two" or "twice" (Old Eng.). Fortunately, some of the OneLook dictionaries also point out that "twi-" may mean either "two" or "half".

How do most English speakers "interprete" the first syllable ("TWI-") in the word TWILIGHT?

If "twilight" = "half-light" (=dusk), it makes sense even to non-native speakers.
If "twilight" = "light that occurs twice a day" or something, this sounds ...a little odd (for lack of a better term)?

MUSCOVITE How do most English speakers "interprete" the first syllable ("TWI-") in the word TWILIGHT? I'm pretty sure that most ordinary English speakers would have no separate interpretation of "twi", nor any idea of the origin of the word.
