Twice as~as

Hi,

A: Test conducted on babies reveal that baby girls respond almost twice as much to a loud sound than do boys.

B: A new study suggests that children who often get serious ear infections are twice as likely to become overweight later in life than kids with healthier ears

In the above sentences, shouldn't 'as' be used in place of 'than'?

As far as I know, 'twice' is restricted to the equality type(as~as).

I would appreciate an anwer. Thank you.

Recently I read about a sentence on a test. "Men suffering anxiety are twice as likely to get cancer." I wonder if I can also use 'twice more likely' in the sentence. If not, why 'twice more likely' is grammatically incorrect. Thanks.

It's not grammatically incorrect. It's just not the way we say it.

Oof! I don't recommend it. It's too confusing.
