I've got to leave at twenty past or I'll miss that train.

What does the "twenty past" mean here?

It refers to the time. For example, if the train leaves at half past ten (10.30 am), you might say "I need to leave at twenty past (10.20 am) or I'll miss it".

Some peole will replace 'past' with 'after', meaning 'after the hour'. 'past' is used with numbers and with quarter & half. After is used with numbers. No hard and set rules here......probably regional differences.

I usually start with the hour and then give the minutes (much like a digital clock).
