Question

Hi,I'd appreciate anyone who could help me and give me the words for the years between 0 to 10 and 10 to 20 and 100 to 110 and 110 to 120 and so forth if exist.Regards,Iman

The year 0 is O A.D. The year 1 is 1 A.D. The year 12 is 12 A.D. The year 109 is 109 A.D. The year 115 is 115 A.D. And so forth. If A.D. is understood from the context, you could simply say: "The year 10," etc.

The years 20 A.D. to 29 A.D. would not be referred to as "the twenties," nor would the years 30 to 39 A.D. be referred to as "the thirties." And so forth.

Starting from around the year 300 A.D., you might say "the 300's" (pronounced: "the three-hundreds") to refer to the years 300 to 399 A.D. Similarly, "the 400's, 500's, 600's, 700's, 800's, 900's." Starting from the year 1000 A.D. you would say: "the 1000's" (pronounced: "the ten-hundreds," not "the one-thousands") for the years 1000 to 1099 A.D. Similarly, "the 1100's" (the eleven-hundreds), "twelve-hundreds," "thirteen-hundreds," "fourteen-hundreds," "fifteen-hundreds," "sixteen-hundreds," "seventeen-hundreds," "eighteen-hundreds," "nineteen-hundreds."

Starting with the year 2000 A.D., you'd say: "the 2000's" (pronounced: "the two-thousands," not "the twenty-hundreds") to refer to the years 2000 to 2099 A.D. But "the 2100's" (pronounced: "the twenty-one-hundreds," not "the two-thousand-one-hundreds") for the years 2100 to 2199 A.D. Similarly, "the twenty-two-hundreds," "the twenty-three-hundreds," etc.

The words the twenties, the thirties, the forties, the fifties, the sixties, the seventies, the eighties, the nineties are only used to refer to the years 1920-1929 A.D., 1930-1939 AD, 1940-1949 AD, 1950-1959 AD, 1960-1969 AD, 1970-1979 AD, 1980-1989 AD, 1990-1999 AD, respectively.

Thank you very much. But I think I've expressed my intention improperly.

I meant the years of sb's life. E.g: Jane's sixties were her best years of her life(this means the years between 60 to 69)

How about 0-10 and 10-20?

Hi Iman.

I do not know the words for those decades either.

But to describe someone's age, such terms are used.

Sexagenerian: between 60 and 69years

Septuagenerian: Between 70 and 79

Octogenerian: Between 80 and 89

Nonagenarian: 90-99

Centenarian: 100 or over

Bicentenarian: 200 or over

Tricentenarian: 300 or over

Keep in mind, it is not just used to indicate the age of someone, these words can be used to describe of anything aged between the above mentioned periods.

With respect to a person's age, the following apply:

13-19: teens

20-29: twenties

30-40: forties

.

etc.

.

90-99: nineties

There is nothing similar for a person's years from 100 an up, since so few people make it that far.

Nor is there anything similar for the years from 0-12.

However, you might hear someone say: "when I was in junior high" for the years from about 11-12, "when I was in grade-school" for the years from around 6-10, "when I was a small kid" for the years from about 3-5, and "when I was a baby" for the years from around 0-2.

I thought you meant years as well, like 2000-2010. You may hear someone say something like "I spent the first decade of my life living in California."
