TWE For/Against Essay: Are parents the best teachers?

Teacher, according to its definition, is a person whose job is to teach, especially in school and college. However, this is untrue in many cases. In practical, teacher can be anyone who is willing to educate others. He can be a police officer, a handicapped person, a working labor, and even everyone's parents. In fact, Parents are the very first people to teach you how to walk, talk, and read. Yet many have criticized, “Are parents the best teachers?” In order to answer this question, both the arguments for and against need to be considered.

To begin with, parents are the best teachers for a child because they are whom every child need the most. It is suggested that this is because of a sense of family which are love and trust that make the baby feels safe when he is with his parents. As the child grow up, this sense does not disappear but get stronger and stronger. This is what fulfill the family and keep the family remains. Also this sense is very important for the efficiency of teaching. Because when the child trusts in his parents, for whatever the parents say, the child will obey it. Also, parents will do their best to teach their child, not because of money but pure love. In addition, not only that the child will be educated by the parents but he will also be disciplined by ones who love and know him the most. Houseworks are things that unavoidable for every child, and others may need to help with family business. Those works are great ways to let the child know the value of money and teach him to be a responsible person. Furthermore, homeschooling has become more and more accepted around the world, especially among the European and North American, because they know that ones who are capable of teaching their child the most are themselves.

In contrary, some parents might be the worst teachers a child would ever have. Firstly, in certain developing countries where starvation is a severe problem, parents have to work hard for living and don't have time even to talk with their child. Some have to leave their home for a city, staying there for years to make just enough money to raise their child. Their only life aspect is surviving. Education is not what they consider an important. Secondly, not everybody is well-educated. In fact, nearly half of world population have never attended schools. Thus, this make it hard for so many to teach their child properly, even though they are willing to. Thirdly, some parents do not understand that every aspects in the child's life could have affected him greatly. They have a wrong idea that teaching is the responsibility for schools. Hence, school is the only choice where those children will be educated and disciplined.

To sum up, the arguments for show that parents can be very productive teachers because they are ones who love the child the most and know their child well. Whereas the arguments against oppose that some parents might not be competent for teaching their child. Are the parents the best teacher a child could have? Having carefully examine both the arguments for and against, the answer is positive; I agree with the statement that parents are the best teachers.
