Turns back to

Liv turns and heads out.

Sam: Hey, wait!

Liv stops and turns back to Sam.

Liv: What?

What does 'turns back to' mean here? Does it mean she turns to Sam who she has just talked to or does it mean she goes back to her?

Hi I don't think we can say for certain. It may just mean that Liv turns around to face Sam but does not move back toward her. On the other hand: - On the Monday morning, I set out for Birmingham.

Hi

I don't think we can say for certain. It may just mean that Liv turns around to face Sam but does not move back toward her.

On the other hand:

- On the Monday morning, I set out for Birmingham. After half an hour, I have changed my mind and turn back to London.

That sentence says I have actually started moving back in the direction of London. However, it's not so
