"Turn out to be"

"If he turns out to be in here, I am gonna kill him."

The meaning of "to turn out to be" is " to show up" or "to be proven"? Or either one is possible in context? Thank you so much as usual and have a good day.

If I understand the intended meaning correctly, I would write it a different way. If it turns out that he is in here, I am going to kill him.
