Turn out or turn up?
Should I use "turned out" or "turned up" in the sentence below?
More than 25,000 people turned out/turned up at/for the event.

Both can be used. Turned out sounds more like enthusiastic people making the effort to go while turned up means that the people went to the event or appeared there. The difference is subtle and not tremendously important, but I'l go with turned out.
