Turn off the light

1. Turn the light off.
2. Turn off the light.

I have read once that both forms are correct, but It seems to me now that the second one has been shown more often than the first.
What is the usage of each in percentage-wise and are there any slight differences?

Thank you.

Well, it's the truth. The only people who ask questions like that are those that are interested in the linguistics aspect of English rather than the practical exercises and advice for reading and writing, speaking and listening.
