If "turn off" meant "canceling of the event , it is strangely used.

This is a "phrasal verb" as well as a "noun" among other references.

A 'turn off' can be a way of refering to a negative aspect associated with something.

eg She was a pretty girl, but the dirt under her finger nails was a turn off.
