Turn down the Thermostat

Hi

Would you say that both lower and turn down work equally well with thermostat?

The water is too cold. You must turn down the thermostat (of your fridge.)

The water is too cold. You must lower the thermostat (of your fridge.)

They both seem OK, but I always use 'turn down the thermostat'. You would more likely 'lower the temperature'.

If something is too cold, wouldn't you want to raise/turn up the thermostat/temperature?
