Hello,
With Laplace gone, Bayes' rule entered a tumultuous period when it was disdained, reformed, grudgingly tolerated, and finally nearly obliterated by battling theorists.

How can I interpret “tumultuous” here? I have thoroughly studied the word “tumultuous”. It is so rich in connotations. Does it imply that during this period, the fate of Bayes’ rule was uncertain and that people were excited about talking about Bayes’ rule ?
Tumultuous:
1Making an uproar or loud, confused noise.
1.1Excited, confused, or disorderly
