Every thing sounded strange. More than any thing the tumultuous chirping of birds on the trees made us feel we were in for some danger.

I mean the people are going to experience something unpleasant.
Then, can we use "....we were in for some danger"?

That style makes it sound as if the people aren't worried about the danger.
