Tulips

I got tulips from my friend, so I put them in a vase and filled it with water. If I wanted to say that I changed the water and I would like to include the word 'tulips', would the preposition 'for' work?

"I changed water for the tulips."

Thank you. It's probably a silly question. I'm sorry for that.
