Speech & Pronunciation

tube - chube

I often hear people pronounce the word 'tube' as something like 'chube'. I wonder if it is the correct way the say that word in Australia. I believe people in the US and the UK pronounce it more like the way it is spelt. Am I right?

Thank you.

Best wishes,

That pronunciation is found in Britain and Australia -- not in the U.S.

The correct English pronunciation is tube - with a "t". To pronounce the word with a ch is a lazy, careless way to speak, I would say. Pronounce your t clearly and you'll sound better educated!

It is but, it's not absolute. There are also British people who pronounce it with a t sound.

There is another difference between the pronunciations of the word tube, in the USA compared to those in the UK and Australia. American pronunciation is like "to

True. Nothing in my saying that that pronunciation is found there implies that no other pronunciation can be found there.
