Trying to recall the right word, please help

Hi Friends,

It is one of those times when you're struggling to remember the right word you came across several months ago but can't remember it now.

So the word I am trying to remember is used to describe the intent of a person who is trying to take advantage of the disadvantage of another person or a situation.

For example - Me and my girlfriend get into this really big fight and stop talking to each other. In such a situation, my friend tries to sneak in and draw her towards him.

How would you describe what my friend is trying to do/ doing in one word?

That's the word I am looking for. I am struggling to remember it for a couple of days now and I would be uncomfortable till the time I remember it. All I can recall is it's a 5-6 letter word and would sound something like twitch, twich or something like that...I can vaguely remember it now Emotion: sad

So please help

Thanks

Thanks Vorpar

But that's not the word I am looking for.

It's more like a verb than a noun.
