Vocabulary

"trying to" or "managing to"?

However, people who are speaking will sometimes look away for a few seconds when they are thinking or ___ to find the right word.
A. trying
B. looking
C. achieving
D. managing
The correct answer is A - trying, but I can't understand why we don't choose D - managing? What's the difference between "try to" and "manage to"?
Thanks in advance!

No, "manage" is impossible here. "manage" basically means "succeed in doing something". For example People often smile when they manage to find the right word.
