Trying to call you

Trying to call Sam but couldn’t reach him


Once I spoke to him, I said


“Hi Sam. I am trying to call you but you’re not answering your phone.”


Is this correct?

No. Say it this way.

eg “Hi, Sam. I was trying to call you but you weren't answering your phone.”

or

“Hi, Sam. I've been trying to call you but you weren't answering your phone.”
