"Try + to + infinitive" Vs "Try + gerund"

"I'll try to call them"
"I'll try calling them"

"I'll try to open it"
"I tried opening it"

Hi. Does it mean a huge difference in meaning if you use the gerund instead of the other? Or they can be used interchangeably?

Thank you

No, but the -ing form can be used to make a suggestion or recommendation to take a certain course of action, as if to say, "Maybe that will work".

Try calling them or try writing to them.
Try lifting it by the handles instead of from the bottom.
