Try not doing sth

Hello,

I know we use try + gerund when we want to talk, for example, about an experiment. Are these sentences ok?

Try not breathing for a minute. The hiccups should go away.

Try holding your breath for a minute. The hiccups should go away.

Do we only say 'the hiccups' or 'the hiccup' would be ok as well?

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Coincidence.

It is the hiccups (plural).

I think 'not' is ok..we don't say 'non doing sth' or 'no doing sth', do we?
Correct. 'not' is the correct word there, not 'non' or 'no'.
