Trust you put in me

Hi.

I received an admission from a uiversity and I want to write a thank you letter for the professor who hired me in his research group.

In part of the letter I have used the phrase the trust you put in me but I am not sure if it is the right phrase in that context.

"I feel obliged to express my appreciation for the trust you put in me. I hope I would be able to compensate this trust by my diligence and fervency in pursing my Ph.D. "

I would be grateful if you could let me know if the above paragraph is correct and suitable for that purpose. feel free to make any changes.

Thanks
