Trust himself to speak

Ned’s neck was rigid with tension. For a moment he was so angry that he did not trust himself to speak.

Hi. Does the underlined part simply mean "he couldn't speak"?

Thank you.

Hi It means that he was worried that, if he spoke, he might say something he would regret. For example, it might give away something about himself that he did not want known; or something that would seriously offend someone else. He did not trust that his words would be what he ought to say.
