True vs. Correct

Hello,
Someone on this site warned me about using the word 'true' like correct. He said true is like real and correct is opposite to false. But in Turkey in every school books authors write paragraphs afterward they ask 'which is true and which is false'. They never say correct or false.... Can you say something about this? Thanks

The definition you received was accurate. True: based on facts or things that really happen, and not made up; real or actual, especially when compared with how something seems to be. Correct: right according to the facts, with no mistakes; right according to your opinion or judgment of a situation; right according to the established rules or ways of doing something.

  • If you can give us an example of a Turkish paragraph and question, then we can check their meanings.

Ah, I see now. Yes, 'true or false'. The question is asking about the content, the meaning, of the statement, not the grammatical correctness of the statement.

In your example, the sentence "Nadya and Rachel don't get along" is false (or not true) because we are told that they are friends. But "Nadya and Rachel don't get along." is still a sentence that is correctly written in terms of grammar.

A Paragraph / A story: ............................Nadya and Rachel are good friends. .........................................Nadya is hyperactive...................
