Essay & Composition Writing

Trouble coming up with debatable position.

I have to write this research paper and it could be about anything. But, my thesis has to be on a position i take on a debatable topic. I wrote most my essay on the history of brazilian jiu jitsu and how it changed world of hand to hand combat but it doesn't have a counter argument which is what this essay is mostly about. One other required task in this essay is that i need to search for sources to support my arguement about some analyical point about my position. My problem is that i can't figure out a position about my subject that isnt one sided. I tried making the counter argument to my thesis, but i always have a counter to the counter arguement.

Does anyone have any ideas i can come with in making te counter argument about BJJ?

This is not exactly an English question, but it is about the use of argument in writing. So here is my analysis. Your thesis does argue at least two things: first, that Brazilain Juijitsu is unique and, second, that it has been a major influenc e in the field of martial arts.

  • The contrary argument would be that it is only a minor variation on other traditional forms of the martial arts or that it has had only a trivial effect on worldwide martial arts.
  • Your job is to disprove these objections.
