Dear all,

Has anybody an idea what "tropes and tensions" in the sentence below could mean? Thank you in advance.


The colonialism built into the bedrock of the Canadian state has bequeathed deep fractures and wounds which are, naturally, reflected in some of the tropes and tensions of left politics, broadly conceived.
