Troll-esque

Is is correct to say that something is "troll-esque" (the "esque" replacing "like", as in, "troll-like")?

Well, if the rules of the essay are such that you are allowed poetic liberties within tolerable boundaries, why not? You must, however, use it in such a way as to leave no duplicity or dubiety about your aim or the word's meaning and intentions.

Remember, Shakespeare coined many of the usages in play today out of existing and non-existing materials...

Also, you can enclose the expression in inverted commas, quotes/speech marks or italicize as well/and/or underline it to differentiate it as a unique expression or coinage...

It remains a very poor choice. 'Troll' is of Scandinavian origin; '-esque' is Romance. The two clash badly in the impression the coined word makes. The boundary is hardly tolerable.

It might be safe to presume that with documented history behind us, we must totally agree that the English language in modern times is not entirely rooted in its old unadulterated beginnings. Infact, the closest thing to the old English came out of the regions around the low countries (Netherlands) as well as the north countries (Norse land)...
