Trodding

Is "trodding" a grammatically correct word?

I have heard that both trod and treading are past tense forms!

Also is the following sentence correct:

"We keep on trodding."

?

I've never heard of a word "trodding". It sounds pretty funny though. Might be useful as a joke word in a nonsense poem.
