Tripping on skies? from the lyrics of YOUTH

There is this expression in the lyrics of the song "Youth", "tripping on skies sipping waterfalls". What does "tripping on skies" mean? Is it like you walk and stumble upon sky? If so how can someone walk on the sky and why is it "skies", the plural form?
