Trip to London. Correct my mistakes

Can you correct my mistakes below?
How were your holidays? I spent my holidays in London in my friend's house/ at my friend's home and in the mountains. During my trip to Lodon I was walking around the city, I visited many famous monuments, I saw Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, The Tower Bridge, the Changing of the Guard in front of the Buckingham Palace. When I was in the mountains, I and my husband were climbing the mountains, were hanging around the city, we were trying to walk a lot and spend time outside,
which tense should I use? Past simple or past continuous?
