trip around the horn

Hello once again,

what does a trip around the horn means, when somebody is not talking about travelling?
How can I understand it in any other way?

Thanks for helping!

The journey around Cape Horn was very long, and was a very indirect route for getting somewhere. So even if it's used in a figurative sense, it carries one of those meanings.

Some people think that the slang term "*****" come from this fact.
