Tring to convey a particular meaning

Are both these sentences correct, and do they mean the same:



a) "I remind that I live in Funchal, which is the main city in Madeira Island, a territory belonging to Portugal but OVERSEAS"


b) "I remind that I live in Funchal, which is the main city in Madeira Island, a territory belonging to Portugal but BEYOND SEA."

We say 'on an island', not 'in an island'.


Since Madeira is an island, it seems unnecessary to say it is 'overseas'.
