Trigger or triggering point

Hi,

What’s the difference between a ‘trigger point’ and ‘triggering point’?

I heard an actor talking about a triggering point for a character’s development, but I thought that it should be a ‘trigger point’.

Thank you.

According to Google Ngrams Viewer, 'trigger point' is used 75 times for every one use of 'triggering point' in the books in their corpus. I was not even familiar with 'triggering point' until I looked this up. It appears to be very rare.
