tries or goes

She smoked a third of her cigarette, put it down, came back for a third later, put it down and smoked the remaining third.

How would you say that? This might not be correct.
She smoked her cigarette in 3 goes/times.

Thank you

Anonymous She smoked a third of her cigarette, put it down, came back for a third later, put it down and smoked the remaining third. I'd say it like than, though with 'then' before the final 'smoked'. It's more natural than your shorter version.
