I was stumped on this one. If bread must be risen, then the baker must rise it?

I used to bake bread, and that was the answer that fit. Bread rises on its own, but the baker has to have considerable skills and practice to make it do so properly.

I found this quote from a (1978) book:

If the bread rises on its own, then the bread must be risen (by the bread)!
