Trick or treat.

Hi guys,

I just translated for my gf an Halloween episode of Desperate Housewives...anyway I'm just courious, in this episode there was being mentioned really nice Halloween tradition in US called "Trick or treat", where children visits families house by house and says "Trick or treat!". After this, an homeowner must show a trick, if he didn't give a treat to the chilren....Really nice. I just wana ask, how old is this US tradition ??? In my country we have a similar tradition, but it's binded to the raising of the Jesus Christ. Not to Halloween. Thanks in advance

cheers JCD.
