Treating group nons in AmE and BrE

Hi,

How to treat nouns like below in sentences please, plural or singular?

Police, team, group, and so on.

Police, team, and group are pronounced the same in the US and UK.


Police is always used in a plural sense - it cannot be used to refer to a single law enforcement officer:


Call the police.


The police have been called.


You'll get in trouble with the police.


"There's a police over there." is ungrammatical.
