Treasured part of the canon....

0Hello. I was reading an article about this summer's upcoming movies (the same article from which I extracted a phrase and asked for its meaning in my last posting), and came across with this phrase "treasured part of the canon." The phrase was found in a paragraph that talks about a guy named Tim Cullen, a guy who is the voice of 01i00Optimus Prime02i00 in the upcoming 01i00Transformers 02i00movie. 02br

00The phrase was found in the following sentence: ...the protagonist could have been Will Smith or magazine-cover bait like Justin Timberlake. But Cullen was the voice of the character Optimus Prime in the 01i00Transformers 02i00TV showm, a treasured part of the canon for true fans. 02br

00One definition of canon I found was "a list of Saints." Is the word "canon" used here to refer to the casts of the movie? 02br

00Please help, and thanks a lot in advance. 0-
