Trash, rubbish, garbage and waste

Please, let me know the difference of the following four words: trash, rubbish, garbage and waste.

For me, "garbage" usually will contain food scraps while "trash" definitely will not. Saying "rubbish" is a way of disagreeing with someone. "Waste" is only rarely used as to substitute for "trash", "garbage", or "refuse" unless it's "human waste". "Litter" is improperly disposed of "trash" or "garbage".

IMHO:
WASTE is a cover term for anything to be disposed of; GARBAGE contains organic matter such as food scraps that may rot; TRASH is waste without organic matter;
RUBBISH (related to RUBBLE) is trash that comes in large pieces.

For speech, I agree, but most of the trash companies around here call themselves "waste haulers". In fact, the two big ones are Waste Management and Midwest Waste.
