Translation of one not very interesting story

Below I want to write the translation taken from one book. I'm eager to hear your opinions about this strory!

John Brown

It happened on October 17th, 1869 in the USA. Having crossed the river Potomak, a small group of people took the arsenal in one of the towns of Virginia on that day. The leader of those brave people was a farmer, named John Brown. He only had twenty two men, who had to fight against skilled soldiers, sent by the government. However, Johns men had been defeated only by the evening when the number of soldiers who were fighting against them, had increased, for another military unit had arrived from Baltimore. Nearly all John Browns men were killed. His two sons were amongst the killed. John, himself, was severely wounded.
When John Brown was arrested, he declared he was fighting for the liberty of Negroes and against those who wanted to make profits at their expense. It was the first man to rise to struggle against racial discrimination.
From the documents, found by Browns enemies, after he had been arrested, it became clear that the events which had been taking place on October 17th had been only the beginning. John Brown intended to distribute the guns, taken in the arsenal to the negroes of Virginia and kept struggle with their help. In his draft constitution of a future liberal country he exposed slavery in the USA as the cruelest war of one part of people against the other.
John Brown was brought before The Slavery Court. He was found guilty and executed. The news of his death spread quickly all over the country and shook everyone. When a year later a lot of the Americans rose against the slavery, their army went forward singing the song about John Brown. And his name is particularly dear to those who are struggling against racial discrimination.
