Hi there,
Been trying to translate a Hungarian text for quite some time. It's on the pedestal of a stone cross erected by villagers who emigrated to the USA after WW1. The trouble is the Hungarian language is extremely concise, and the meaning of one sentence can often be rendered only via multiple English sentences. Could someone tell me whether the sentences below aren't too bad? I'd prefer to keep the single sentence structure as in the original.
"This sacred cross is to proclaim the religious piety and gratitude towards Jesus the Saviour of the Roman Catholic believers of Borsodszirak working in America" or
"This sacred cross is to proclaim the religious piety and gratitude of the Roman Catholic believers of Borsodszirak working in America to Jesus the Saviour."
