Transitive vs. intransitive

transitive vs. intransitive

The passage below is from ‘the Blank Slate’ by Steven Pinker.

http://evolbiol.ru/blankslate/blankslate.htm

Autism, dyslexia, language delay, language impairment, learning disability, left-handedness, major depressions, bipolar illness, obsessive-compulsive disorder, sexual orientation, and many other conditions run in families, are more concordant in identical than in fraternal twins, are better predicted by people's biological relatives than by their adoptive relatives, and are poorly predicted by any measurable feature of the environment.

In this passage the underlined ‘run’ seems to be used as transitive verb in a sense of syntax, for it post-modifies ‘many other conditions.’
(Am I right?)

The problem is I cannot find out any ‘run’ in this meaning used as the transitive.
Sentences like the following is all I can see: Therefore, the fact that conditions run in families does not necessarily mean they are genetic.

I’m in a dilemma.
Hope for your replies.

Regards.
