B: He answered.

OK. How is it correct to use a transitive verb (say, ask, answer, give) without an object?
0
Transitive verbs are verbs that take an object and so, almost by definition are not used without an object. If there is no object, then the verb is being used intransitively.

So the question is which transitive verbs can be used intransitively?
0
Some of the verbs that be be both transitive and intransitive include: drink, eat, grow, improve, leave, manage, sing, start, stop, write. There are many more.

OK, now two more questions!
First why is this incorrect?
A: Do you want to eat the dinner or would like to drink some cola?
B: I drink.

And how do you judge a sentence that a transitive verb is used intransitively in it? did you memorize all those ones?

KhoshtipManFirst why is this incorrect?A: Do you want to eat the dinner or would like to drink some cola?B: I drink.
Given that question, there are a number of possible answers, but 'I drink' is not one of them. A natural answer to 'Do you want ... or would you like ...?' is ''I would like ...'.

What about this:
Do you want to drink coffee or eat some food?
I want to drink.
