Transitive verb

Is it complusory to have an object after a transitive verb? e.g. I would appreciate (it) if you would reply asap.

There could/must be an object following a transitive verb. Is it could or must?

Thank you.

Hongkie I would appreciate (it) if you would reply asap. I could be wrong, but in my opinion removing the "it" does not deprive your sentence of an object.
