Transitive or non-transitive?

Hi everyone,

Do these examples have transitive or non-transitive verbs?

I'll have to ask for permission to leave.

She asked for their forgiveness/help.

As you know, a transitive verb takes an object which is normally a noun phrase.

A preposition can't function as object of a verb.

But you could say that the boldfaced parts in your sentences are transitive prepositional verbs:

I'll have to ask for permission to leave.

She asked for their forgiveness/help.
