Transitive and intransitive

The computer automatically turns on.
The computer is automatically turned on.

It seems the first type is used as frequently as the second one, so are both correct and do they mean the same?

Actually, I think the first may be more common, when it does not read 'The computer automatically turns itself on'. I've forgotten the term for this verb type ( the lights turn on automatically, these glasses break easily , etc). CJ probably knows.

They are synonymous, but we often add 'itself'—that was my point.
