Transformation of sentences rules

Question - They had to spend the night in the train because the train was delayed.
Answer - (If....) the train was not delayed, they wouldn't had to spend a night in jail.

(The "wouldn't had to spend" seems a bit awkward to me. But i think so that the time of sentence should remain the same and so it should in the past as in the question. Is it alright?)

Question - The rock didn't fall on him, so he wasn't injured.
Answer - "If..." the rock did fall on him, he would have been injured.

(Do "so he wasn't injured" and "he would been injured" have the same time? And is the transformation correct?)

I'm curious. Why did you add the colorful detail of spending the night in jail when the original sentence said nothing of the kind?
