Transformation of sentences

1 I started playing the piano five years ago.
1(a) I have been playing the piano for five years.

2. I started to play the piano five years ago.
2 (b) I have played the piano for five years.

Are the sentences correctly transformed?

What is the difference between sentence 1(a) and 2(b)?

Thanks in advance.

a and 2b. Some might argue that the progressive tense in 1a implies that you might be ready to take a break and massage your fingers whereas 2b suggests that you have tinkled away intermittently. Most people wouldn't be daft enough to make that distinction however and would accept either sentence.

All four are correct and there is no difference in meaning between !a and 2b. Some might argue that the progressive tense in 1a implies that you might be ready to take a break and massage your fingers whereas 2b suggests that you have tinkled away intermittently. Most people wouldn't be daft enough to make that distinction however and would accept either sentence.
